Children’s is dedicated to
transforming the role of nurses
across the organization to
meet the needs of the ever-
growing patient population.
In 2013, the leadership team led a reinvention of the nursing structure. The reinvention
introduced new roles, revised the nursing qualifications and provided educational
opportunities that allow the nurses to continue learning best practices and growing their
roles. The reinvention brings additional caregivers to the bedside and a better defined
structure for nursing advancement. With the right structure, knowledge and tools, nurse
leaders are positioned to strategically influence and ensure alignment of nursing goals with
those of the organization.
In addition to nursing professionalism, the reinvention is about outcomes. The reinvention
of nursing at Texas Children’s is transforming the way nurses work, responding to the needs
of patients and equipping the organization for the future.
