In one corner of Texas Children’s
Emergency Center is an exam room
where nurses painted bright flowers
and swirls on the ceiling tiles to distract
young patients lying on the exam
table below.
It’s the room used by the Sexual Assault
Nurse Examiners (SANE). These
compassionate, dedicated nurses care
for patients who have been sexually
abused. Each year, about 750 children
come to Texas Children’s Emergency
Center after being sexually abused.
The patients are as young as a few
weeks old to teenagers.
