The reinvention,
transforming health care
and improv ng outcomes
A 2010 Institute of Medicine report, “The Future of Nursing: Leading
Change, Advancing Health,” challenged nurses to assume leadership roles
in redesigning health care in the United States to better meet the needs of
current and future patients.
Texas Children’s took this call to action seriously. The first step was to bring in a
powerhouse leader who wasn’t afraid to transform the current nursing framework and
reinvent it into a nationally recognized model that would improve patient outcomes and
position the hospital for success in health care reform.
“I spent the first six months meeting with, listening to and learning from
the staff, patients and their families and analyzing all of Texas Children’s
data,” said Senior Vice President and Chief Nursing Officer
Lori Armstrong, MSN, RN, NEA-BC.
