Executive engagement
Chief Nursing Officer Lori Armstrong engages with the frontline nursing staff on a regular
basis in an effort to ensure she is aware of the needs of those who are caring for patients
at the bedside. During a monthly lunch session, nurses from various units are invited to sit
with Armstrong for an hour as they eat and have candid conversations about their roles.
It provides Armstrong with a chance to get to know her staff and for the nurses to make
a connection with the leader. Armstrong also regularly rounds with a multidisciplinary
staff in units across the hospital. This provides visibility on the units and an opportunity for
valuable dialogue which allows Armstrong to make decisions as a leader with the staff and
patients in mind.
