2013 Nursing Outcomes - page 2

Chances are you have a personal story about a nurse who was by your side at a difficult
time. Nurses play a vital role in the care of our patients and their families and greatly
influence their experiences. Whether at the bedside of a pregnant woman welcoming her
new baby, standing beside a family as they receive difficult news or holding a little girl’s hand
during treatment, nurses are most closely associated with patient- and family-centered
care and greatly affect patient outcomes.
Texas Children’s Nursing Outcomes
focuses on
outcomes impacted by the nursing staff and on new initiatives taken to improve those
outcomes and patient care.
In 2013 our nurses impacted care delivery within the organization and made a difference
in the community through their volunteer work and professional engagement. Nurse
researchers conducted research that will change the way children and women are cared
for across the country. There was no shortage of accomplishments for this incredible
nursing team.
Throughout the organization last year we had 31,223 admissions, and more than 3.2
million patient encounters among our two Texas Children’s Hospital locations, 48 pediatric
practices, Texas Children’s Pavilion for Women, Texas Children’s Health Centers and
The Center for Children and Women. Essentially, our nurses help care for more than 8,700
children and women each day across our system.
Our nursing outcomes book demonstrates our drive for continuous improvement, and
we hope you find it valuable.
Sincerely,
Mark A.Wallace
