2013 Nursing Outcomes - page 6

Over the past 60 years, Texas Children’s Hospital has experienced tremendous growth
and change, but those powerful words spoken at our founding many years ago continue to
guide the care we give today.
That certainly rings true for the nearly 2,500 nurses who are serving at the bedside of
women and children each and every day at Texas Children’s. These nurses are committed
to delivering the best care and striving for the best results. The past has taught us what we
have done right and a few things we can improve, which is why the future is so promising.
The future of nursing at Texas Children’s starts with our vision to be the nation’s leader in
both pediatric and obstetrical nursing, and we have proven we are on our way to reaching
that goal. We hired more than 100 nurses in 2013, we developed a program invested in
raising the certification level of our current nurses and we redefined the nursing career
ladder. Nurses are more involved than ever in helping shape their roles in patient care.
They’re involved in nursing governance councils, and they know they have a say in the care
we deliver.
In 2013, we reinvented the role of nursing at Texas Children’s to help ensure we have
comprehensive bedside care, and we are seeing a positive impact to our patient outcomes.
As you read
Texas Children’s Nursing Outcomes
, I hope you are inspired by the work of our
nurses and impacted by their stories.
Sincerely,
Lori Armstrong
Senior Vice President and Chief Nursing Officer
“May all children who come here
aching and in pain leave healed;
and all those who come in tears
leave smiling.”
