Community involvement
Patient- and family-centered care is at the very core of nursing at Texas Children’s.
Community nurses extend the same quality of care available at the hospital to the
community, providing children and women with access to the right care, closer to home.
Texas Children’s community footprint includes a suburban pediatric hospital with another
under construction — 50 local primary care and subspecialty care practices — and
The Center for Children and Women. The Center is a primary care provider facility that
is designed to address the shortage of primary care medical needs for Medicaid and CHIP
(Children’s Health Insurance Program) populations. In total, nearly 200 nurses provide
primary and subspecialty care outside of the hospital’s main campus.
These nurses provide care that helps improve patient outcomes by helping educate families
and connecting them with wellness and disease management support.
