Texas Children’s rolls out red carpet during
Nurses Week
Each year, nurses around the country celebrate national Nurses Week May 6-12 in
conjunction with Florence Nightingale’s birthday. Nightingale is known as the mother
of modern-day nursing. Texas Children’s nurses were invited to several red carpet
screenings of the documentary
Nurses: If Florence Could See Us Now
throughout Nurses
Week 2013.
“ If Florence Nightingale could spend just one day at
Texas Children’s Hospital, I think she would say that
her dreams have come true times 1,000,”
said Chief
Nursing Officer Lori Armstrong.
“Nurses are in independent
roles, in full par tnership with physicians, critically
thinking and advocating for their patients.”
Flanking the red carpet, nurse leaders, “paparazzi” and a red carpet correspondent
greeted the staff before they headed into the screening. The red carpet documentary
screenings were just one way the organization showed appreciation for Texas Children’s
nurses and their dedication to the patients whose lives they touch.
Texas Children’s 2013 Nurses Week events also included the first Nursing Excellence
Awards Luncheon, which honored seven nurses and a Friend of Nursing award recipient
for advocacy of and commitment to nursing. A blessing of the hands event, poster
display, research presentations and unit spirit events were other highlights from the week.
