Your stay at Texas Children’s

We understand that having a child in the hospital can be overwhelming. Our staff and medical professionals are dedicated to providing the very best care for your child and supporting your family every step of the way. We offer a wide range of comprehensive services to help meet your needs and help you navigate the course of your child’s hospitalization.

Your guide to Texas Children's Hospital
Texas Children’s Hospital’s three Welcome guides contain maps and a directory of helpful information – everything from patient services to family and guest services to billing to safety and security, privacy and patient rights and responsibilities.

In the hospital, a vinyl guide is wall-mounted in every patient room with color-coded flip cards in English and Spanish that families can use as a reference tool. Families who have a child in the hospital also receive a companion folder with a “quick guide” and other condensed information, which they can carry with them as they move about the campus.

Clinic patients receive a separate folder with similar information that’s been customized for the needs of families visiting the Clinical Care Center.

Both folders have pockets for families to store information they receive about their child’s care and the content in both is in English and Spanish.

If you have questions about your child's care, or you are not able to find the information you need in one of the Welcome guides, ask a member of your child's healthcare team. We are here to help.

Friends and family
At Texas Children's, we recognize the importance of family to a child's health and well-being. We provide family-centered care and value you as an important member of your child's healthcare team. We encourage you to be with your child at all times and to partner with us in care. Siblings, family and friends are welcome.

In order to provide a safe environment for all patients, families and staff, we actively screen visitors for symptoms of illness each day in the hospital's patient care areas. Visitors who are sick or have symptoms will be asked to leave the hospital until fully recovered. Access to the patient care areas may also be restricted during flu season or for other health or safety concerns. All friends and family visiting your child should practice good hand hygiene. Soap and water and hand sanitizer are available in your child's room and throughout the hospital.

Patient satisfaction
Texas Children’s aims to provide the finest pediatric care possible. Your satisfaction with the care your child receives is very important to us. If you have concerns about care or service, we have procedures that allow you to voice your concerns.

The first step is to speak with your child's care provider. If after speaking with your child's care provider you do not feel that your concern has been resolved, please call Family Advocacy at 832-824-1919 to speak with a patient care advocate who will assist you. Should you need to register a complaint, you child's care will in no way be affected.
